CHARACTER DESIGN STUDIES
This page highlights the work I did and studied as part of a character design masterclass by
Maria Lia Malandrino (IG: @art_bymemo). The course was called "The Basics of Character Designing" which was available on teachable.
WEEK 1
Learning blocking methods and understanding anatomy
WEEK 2
Gesture Drawing Practices within a time limit. More on the Gesture Drawing page. Poses used from line of action
WEEK 3
Using shapes to create something strange and unique, and starting to create a character together.
WEEK 4
Making sketches and adaptations to our Dwarf Druid character we created.
WEEK 5
Understanding clothing on how it works, designing props from an exercise and dressing our Dwarf Druid and any OCs (own characters) up with moodboards.
WEEK 6
Understanding horizon lines, perspective, designing character turnarounds and facial expressions. I chose to use my OC Emily.
WEEK 7
Understanding colour harmonies to create colour palettes, colouring and shading our characters and using reference images to create colour pallets.
